Émilie Simon started to get really well known after the soundtrack of the movie “March of the Penguins” (in 2005). She composed the songs and the album received many awards (Best Original Score, best Original Soundtrack…).

Lets have a quick look at her story to know her more:

  • She was born on July 17th 1978 in Montpellier, from a musician mother and a sound engineering father.
  • She studied musicology there and in Paris-Sorbonne, where she did a Master Degree in contemporary music.

Her discography:

Émilie Simon (2003) in which she was already assimilated to Björk

La Marche de l'Empereur (2005)

Végétal (2006), based on the vegetal theme and using sounds of plants: a pure and unique travel in the floral world

The Big Machine (2009), first based on a piano/voice work, and the computer texture only came afterwards. This album seems to have received a New-York influence.

Frankie Knight (2011), withsongs written for his ex-companion who was also his co-worker.

Mue (2014), her new captivating album written in Paris. Meaning “Metamorphosis”, “Mue’ is an allusion to the different states that we go through in a love story. Every time we fall in love it’s like when the skin sloughs.

Her very first concert took place in Rennes at l’Ubu, followed by many more performances across France at the Eurockéennes of Belfort, Paris… She even did the first part of the group Placebo. Her success quickly became international and she is now touring in Europe, Australia and in the U.S.

The tour she is doing in March 2015 includes performances in Wuhan (March 17th), Shanghai (March 19th), Beijing (March 20th), Tokyo (March 21st), Singapore (March 23rd), Hong Kong (March 26th) and Taipei (March 28th). More details available here

It’s her second time in Hong Kong and we can’t wait to listen to her eclectic mix of pop, electronic and Bjork-like vocals. Her feminine voice that evokes a children’s soul is very unique.

If you don’t know her, don’t miss the chance to listen to her magnificent songs.
