Gastronomy  Fun and Easy Desserts with Bonne Maman!

It's December and the holiday season is near! To satisfy your sweet tooth (especially for those in the colder parts of the world), Atout France in India has graciously shared their simple and yummy dessert recipes with us. All of the dishes are made with jams and fruit preserves from the Bonne Maman brand, which is a household name across France. 

Meaning “Grandmother” in French, the Bonne Maman brand was crafted in the French village of Biars, and embodies the tenderness and generosity of home cooking. Known for its traditional red and white checkered branding, this brand now sells its jams, jellies, preserves, cookies and other goods all over the world.

Rolled Strawberry Cake

Ingredients (6 servings)

Rolled cake:
  • 100g powdered sugar
  • 50g Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserve
  • 80g flour
  • 40g cornflour
  • 4 eggs
  • 30g melted butter
  • 250g fresh strawberries

  • 120g Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserve

The how-to:
  1. Pre-heat oven to 210°C.
  2. Separate the egg whites and the egg yolks. Beat together the egg yolks and Bonne Maman Strawberry Preserve.
  3. Add flour and cornflour. Add the melted butter.
  4. Whisk the egg whites and incorporate the sugar in three steps into a thick meringue. Softly incorporate the meringue into the egg yolks, preserve and flour mixture. Layer batter onto a parchment paper to a 1cm thickness.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The cake must remain soft.
  6. Take the cake out of the oven, immediately turn it over and set on a tea towel.
  7. Remove the parchment paper. Cut the fresh strawberries into nice quarters.
  8. Layer the strawberry preserve and chunks over the cake. Roll the cake in the tea towel and gently create a tight roll.
  9. Leave the cake to cool in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  10. Dust icing sugar on the rolled cake.

Orange Madeleines

Ingredients (6 servings):
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 40g caster sugar
  • 4 Tbsp Bonne Maman Orange Marmalade
  • 1 orange zest
  • 135g flour
  • 5g baking powder
  • 1 pinch of fleur de sel
  • 125g butter

The how-to:
  1. In a bowl, beat together the egg yolks, sugar, Bonne Maman Orange Marmalade and orange zest.
  2. Add the flour, baking powder and the pinch of fleur de sel. Add warm melted butter.
  3. Leave it to cool in the refrigerator. Pre-heat oven to 210°C.
  4. Fill each madeleine pan shell cup to threequarters full with the mixture. Add 1 teaspoon of Orange Marmalade to the center of each madeleine.
  5. Bake the madeleines for about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a rack.
  6. Serve warm and dig in!

Fig and Apple Crumble

Ingredients (6 servings):

  • 120g flour
  • 80g Bonne Maman Fig Preserve
  • 80g butter
  • 80g ground hazelnuts
  • 2 tbsp of fresh hazelnuts
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 500g fresh figs cut into chunks
  • 500g apples cut into chunks
  • 50g Bonne Maman fig preserve
  • 20g butter

The how-to:
  1. Peel the apples and chop into large chunks.
  2. Melt the butter with the fig preserve in a pan and add the apple chunks. Cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove the mixture from the heat and add the fig chunks, then layer it in a buttered crumble dish.
  4. Leave the fruits to cool while pre-heating oven to 200°C. Roughly chop the hazelnuts.
  5. To prepare the crumble, mix together the flour, preserve, ground hazelnuts, chopped hazelnuts, the pinch of salt and pinch of cinnamon in a large salad bowl.
  6. Add the butter and rub with fingertips until the crumble mixture looks lumpy. Set the crumble preparation over the fruits.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes.
  8. Serve the fig and apple crumble when still warm!
